Wall - JT Devotion Day Twenty

“Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.” Nehemiah 1: 8-9 (NIV)
Today’s Jesse tree symbol is of a wall, to remind us of the wall that was rebuilt around Jerusalem in order to keep the Sabbath day a day of rest. Nehemiah urges the chosen people to change their ways and return to the true faith. The book of Nehemiah tells the story of the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls and the moral protective walls of the Jews. He asks God to forgive him for his sins and to forgive his people. He acknowledges that God’s chosen people have corrupted the Lord’s commandments and ways. Nehemiah prayed regularly, day and night, for Gods people. Prayer is a vital part of our communion with God. We should pray for day to day issues and seek God’s desire. Outside of our own individual lives we should bring different countries, people groups, social injustice etc to the Lord in prayer. We should also seek God’s thoughts on the state of the church and religion, especially when so many of us are conversing about this in our post modern culture.
Today think about whether your prayers are focused on you and your situation, or do you prayer for others and situations out of concern, and grieve before and with God? What prevents you from praying? Maybe, as we read about in the prayer synchroblog a few months back, it is to do with the legalism which has been established. Read through some of the blog posts and see ways in which so many pray - maybe this will help you today.
