Tent - JT Devotion Day Sixteen

“I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.” That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!” 2 Kings 19:34-35 (NIV)
Today’s Jesse Tree symbol is of an empty tent, to represent King Hezekiah’s enemies who were destroyed on the battlefield, leaving their tents behind. King Hezekiah put his trust in God. Through his faithfulness his people were
saved and his enemies destroyed. The destruction of Sennacherib’s army was a sign to Hezekiah’s faith, which assured him of present deliverance and God’s future care for Judah, all done for God’s glory.
Mighty men become weak in the presence of Almighty God. No one has ever hardened his heart against God and prospered. We may be afflicted, but God will not forsake us. We must wait for things to be fulfilled in our lives in God’s perfect timing, and not go it alone. We must endure and try not to get impatient. While we wait for God to move may he help our unbelief. May our hearts be good so that we can bear fruit. Hezekiah is another example of someone in the bible who knew that they must put their trust in God. Today think about things which you may be becoming impatient with, and bring them to God. Ask him to move in your situation, and put your trust in him and his perfect timing. Remember, your situation might not work out the way you perceive that it might, but we are not mightier than God and we definitely do not know better.
