Tears - Jesse Tree Devotion Day Eighteen

“Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people.” Jeremiah 9:1

Today’s Jesse tree symbol is of an eye with tears to represent Jeremiah describing God’s grief as an endless fountain of tears. This is because God is longing for the return of his people and for them to stop worshiping idols. In this passage Jeremiah weeps a lot, yet he wishes he could cry more for the return of the people to God. Do you ever feel like that with people you know, or with the world as a whole? What will it take for them to realize that they need God in their life as sovereign, and that Jesus is their saviour?

The world has replaced God with many idols. Even as Christians, we have idols in our lives, possibly without even realizing it? Today think about your life, think about what idols you may have, which take your time away from God. Consider ways in how you could re-focus your time, and spend a lot more time in his presence, and really treating him as sovereign over your life.
