Sack of Grain - JT Devotion Day Seven
“During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure.” Genesis 41: 47-49 (NIV)
Today’s symbol is a sack of grain. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, and he was taken to Egypt where he ended up having favour with the Pharoah and was given a great position of responsibility. He found fruit in a land where he had experienced misery. Famine hit the region, but through Joseph’s prudence and care, the Egyptians had enough grain to live on. We must not be secure in prosperity, or become lazy and slow moving in making good use of opportunities placed before us. Years of plenty will end, so gather whilst you can.
Jesus is the bread of life, do as he asks you to do, listen to his voice. He will satisfy the hunger of your soul. Today allow him to be your provider, knowing that the road is sometimes dark and bumpy with no sight in view, however the road will also be smooth and bright with plenty to give thanks and praise for. You can read more about Joseph in Genesis 37-50.
