Secularism
Jason has written an excellent post today, which you can read here. It is about a storm which has brewed up in the UK after a prominant Christian made a sensitive comment about abortion. Secularists have been out in force condemning the comments and basically making more of a mountain out of a molehill than necessary (IMO).
It seems to me that in the UK no one is allowed to have an opinion unless they are a secularlist - and by the way, it seems their opinion on things is always the right one. I appreciated the way in which Jason ended his post:
“Amazing that secularist, atheist non Christians continue to practice their religion with the same bile, animosity, hatred, and ignorance as the religious believers they caricature.
Oh for some humble thoughtful and gracious atheists and secularists. I’m sure they exist but for now the UK is held sway by religious fundamentalism of a different kind.”
On a sideline, I promised Ben that I would blog and tell you all that he liked the butternut squash, parsnip and potato soup which Jonathan made for lunch! Ben is eight and a half and has always refused to try soup. He doesn’t like “wet” food, which is to do with his autism, so we were gob smacked when he said he’d try some, and then to like it, well, you could have knocked me over with a feather! Now to see if he will eat it again ….

that was a good post, i guess that hard core secularists are enjoying having the chance to get the boot in now but maybe that’s cos we wore the boot so badly ourselves before.
I listened to a podcast on speaking of faith interviewing harvey cox and it was great to hear his take on the balance between faith and secularism, how they seem to act as a checks and balances

ha! that’s great about the soup. (my brain’s too tired to deal with the other.) my eight year old won’t eat soup either. it’s not for any reason especially, she just won’t do it. could be because some soup has beans and it’s just too big a chance to take!
