Yesterday on CNN international I watched the majority of “God’s Warriors” which is a series they ran on CNN America during the summer. The series focuses on Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Yesterday’s episode was on Christians and politics. I must admit that during most of the program I was cringing at how conservative and fundamentalist Christians are basically always portrayed to represent the faith. There was various pastors passionately talking about why every Christian American should vote republican, why Christians should protect Israel at whatever the cost - they were very much pro-war saying that was God’s wish (not sure about that one myself) and a few other agendas I can’t remember right now.
Finally toward the end of the program they had a few pastors on from my “wave length” who had a more emergent take on issues. These were the guys encouraging us to help cease poverty, make community changes and be a steward for the environment - you know Jesus things, yet sadly the fundamentalists in the program just branded them as heretics. How is it that some people get such a rattle in their cage about an issue that they don’t really care who they hurt, what happens etc, as long as they get their way. Some of these pastors seemed so narrow and tunnel minded that it is scary, as they hold the keys to a lot of the movement in politics within the United States - very worrying. They consider themselves to be right, without an ounce of doubt that their methods may be wrong - again I find this to be very concerning. However at the same time I admire their passion over their “issue” and wonder if I would be more effective within my little part of the world if I had passion like that - I probably would - but I certainly don’t want the narrow mindedness and judgement that comes with it.

Well, the game is over, South Africa won - congratualtions to them. England had a few decisions go the wrong way, including what looked like a try disallowed.
I am so proud to be an England rugby fan. The England rugby team have worked so incredibly hard to reach a final nobody expected them to even get near. We beat every team who said that they were going to destroy us and send us home from the tournament early - they got mud in their face. I am disappointed for the lads, they wanted to win this moment, sadly it wasn’t to be this time. Hold your heads high though, you won in my eyes - I will continue to wear my English rose with pride.
What a fantastic game of rugby we witnessed tonight - thank you South Africa and England for a great eighty minutes.
Now, for those of you not interested in rugby, I will cease to talk about it! ![]()

Today is the Rugby World Cup final. I’m in France in my England Rugby shirt - the kick off seems hours away. I love this site by Nike - not without a fight I also love the Jonny Wilkinson waxwork which has been put up by the column in Trafalgar square - right by South Africa’s embassy. (seen above)
Whatever the outcome today, I am so proud and chuffed for the England rugby team. What a turn around we’ve seen. They have done so incredibly well to get to the final - all the teams that said that England were going no whee this world cup have not even made the final three. If they come second tonight, then they do, second place in defence of your title is NOTHING to be ashamed off, especially when they were totally written off before and during the tournament.
Do us proud boys, we’re routing for you all. Hold your heads up high, and play the big game we are hoping to see.

I find it amazing that after driving five or so hours down from Cherbourg to the Poitou-Charente region in France that I find myself sitting in the warm sun. In fact it feels warmer than I remember summer feeling in the UK this year! Funnily though, leaves are turning brown and red here and autumn has set in. Whilst walking around yesterday in our t-shirts and shorts the locals had fleeces on - it obviously didn’t feel so warm to them! My in-laws have had their fire on a bit too as they have felt cold! We’ve been enjoying french pastries and homeschooling in a different setting. The only downer is that I started a chocolate fast a week and a half ago, so no chocolate for me :-( We’re starting to wind down some now, which is coming out in our sudden feeling of utter exhaustion!

We’ve just arrived at my in-laws home in France following a long journey down! We are staying in a rural area near Poitiers - about one hour or so inland from La Rochelle. Looking forward to the break and slow down. I’ll be online, so will blog as and when. Hoping to hear some good stuff from God - I guess he’s pleased that I might be slowed down enough to be listening well!
