Before we went to Scotland Jonathan bought a sat nav, as we were driving off the beaten track in an unfamiliar area. Our sat nav became known to us as “Susan.” On our journey up to the highlands she kept the kids well entertained. Soon her voice became a familiar part of our car journeys (and there were lots of them!) with her intricately directing us “turn left, at the traffic lights go straight ahead, stay in the right lane etc”
I was thinking the other day about how wonderful it would be if God was like a sat nav. If he audibly guided us where to go, that way we would know that we were on the right track and following his plan. Then I realized that this would make God very ordinary and monotonous. Part of my excitement in my walk with God is that I really don’t know what’s coming next, yes this can be frustrating at times when I want a clear simple answer, but it also keeps God mysterious and extraordinary. I think he is wild and adventurous - he should not, and will not, be tamed.

We just got one too … we named ours, Polly. I’m not clear on why exactly, but it has something to do with several Monty Python skits. Do you talk back to yours? We do. And Ross continually tries to psych Polly out. It causes gales of laughter from all of us. As if she’s human or something.
LOL! Ours got named Susan because Jonathan said that was what the name of the voice was … it turned out last week that it was actually Jane! We’ll stick to Susan though! We had a few times in Scotland where we accidentally went the wrong way , or had to due to road works. Susan would say “in 300 yards turn around” or something like that. We started joking with each other that Susan was soon going to start swearing at us for not listening to her! Yep, we do talk to ours - not sure if that is sane or not, but we find it amusing!
i’m planning to get one myself. LOL
i believe that, even if God audibly speak to us where to go, we are not going to follow Him 100% because most of the times there are road constructions in our way and temptations to block our directions.
Very good point - thanks for commenting
