Corporate World
Sad, but true. How have we got to the point in the west where family is so low down on the list? Peoples employers (whatever the profession) expect them to be more and more committed to work. Their career is supposed to be number one priority, whatever the cost. Should employers be more supporative of a shorter working week and more family time etc?

It’s a good point lyn, i used to work for a big private firm of accounts, awesome money but they bought your soul too. In the end for a variety of reasons like me, my faith and my marriage about to break down i quit that job and got a much more balanced one in the public sector…
looking back i have to say that a lot of what i did was my own choice, out of my own pride, need to feel worth, dreams of money and making it big - i guess i often co-operated in the system as much as i was co-opted by it!
I’m glad you made the break Paul. I guess there is that human thing about wanting sucess, money etc in all of us - like you wrote, a feeling of worth. What do you think of a four day working week? A friend of ours works for a big architect company. A few years ago he changed to a four day working week. He is still manic 4 days of the week, but has that extra day to a)for R & R and b) a bit of extra family time, which he felt he was missing out on before.
I like the idea of a 4 day week but i think it would cost me something of my time now - mornings and early evenings are quite important for us with 2 young boys but if they were older i could see it being fun
